Ledley King's Talking Points

Raheem Sterling scored his first England hat-trick as Southgate's men breezed past the Czech Republic with a 5-0 win in their opening euro qualifier. Jadon Sancho was given his first start, while Declan Rice and Hudson-Odoi also featured in a game that fuelled excitement for the Three Lions’ future.

Things haven’t gone as well for Scotland in their opening qualifiers, with a 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan followed by an uninspired 2-0 victory against San Marino. Scotland Boss Alex McLeish was booed by fans as his side laboured past the world’s lowest-ranked International side.

Birmingham City have been docked nine points for breaching the Football League’s profitability and sustainability rules. The punishment sees Garry Monk’s side drop five places to 18th, leaving them five points clear of relegation from the Championship.

Luton Town put four past Doncaster to extend their unbeaten league run to 26 games, the longest in England’s top four divisions. The Hatters are five points clear at the top of the table with seven games remaining.

Portsmouth took the opportunity to leapfrog Sunderland with a 2-0 win against Shrewsbury on Saturday. The Black Cats were out of action and now have two games in hand on the three sides above them at the League One summit.

Rochdale earned a 3-1 victory against Scunthorpe to intensify the 13-team fight to avoid relegation in League One. The result means Rochdale are one point away from safety, while only six points off 12th.

Lincoln City extended their lead at the top of League Two to eight points after taking three points from Crawley. The victory extends the Imps’ unbeaten run to 16 games.
