Ledley's Talking Points: Final Day Drama, Great Escapes and Emotional Goals

7 Talking Points
Stoke City are relegated after their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Potters have won just one game in 2018, while Palace are now mathematically safe with just goal difference separating them from the top half. That is a huge credit to Hodgson when you consider they failed to score in any of their opening seven games.
West Brom are still holding onto Premier League survival after their dramatic 1-0 win over Spurs. They are very capable of beating the now safe Palace on the final day, and if other results go their way the most unlikely of great escapes. Their chances are slim, but they seemed impossible just one month ago.
Southampton left Goodison park with just a point after a last gasp, deflected equaliser from Tom Davies. It was a frustrating and disappointing result for Saints who are now out of the relegation zone on goal difference, and face their relegation rivals Swansea tonight.
Neil Warnock has earned promotion as a manager for a record-breaking eighth time, with Cardiff City returning to the Premier League next season. Cardiff were second-bottom in the Championship when Warnock took over in October 2016. “We'll be odds-on favourites to be relegated but we were 33-1 to get into the play-offs this season, never mind promotion,” he said.
Fulham would have taken that automatic promotion spot if they had beaten Birmingham, but the Blues took all three points with a 3-1 win. That means Fulham will now need to win the playoffs to return to the PL for the first time since 2014, with Derby and either Villa or Boro standing in their way.
Bolton needed a win, and a defeat for both Barnsley and Burton on Sunday to secure their Championship status. With 10 minutes to play, Barnsley were losing but Burton were drawing and looked like getting a winner, while Bolton were 2-1 down to Forest. It looked like it was over, but two quickfire goals in the last five minutes saw Bolton finish 3-2 winners, while Burton also fell behind in the 92nd minute.
Joe Thompson scored the only goal in Rochdale’s win over Charlton to secure survival in League One. Thompson returned to Dale earlier in the season after beating cancer for the second time. “It’s been a rollercoaster but today’s a massive high, a massive, big moment for my family and I’m sure we’ll celebrate and enjoy it,” he said.
The Legends finished the season in 23rd place, with Ledley winning the battle of the Legends with 596 points. Robbie Keane followed behind in second on 589 points, while Jermain Jenas and Paul Robinson tied in third with 567 each.
