Ledley's Talking Points: Mourinho's Misery, Escape Artists and Early Pace Setters

7OTB Blog Graphic 5

It was a tough round this weekend and just six players predicted all seven of their selections correctly, moving on to leg two on the road to £1,000,000. Johnnyboy fell at the third hurdle after getting his selections correct two weeks in a row, and starts over in Matchweek 5.

Topping the table this time was Kevin Putnam on 28 points, beating JD on goal difference to claim his £100 free bet. Well done to the rest of you who were in the prizes after finishing in the top 30.

Our winning team was the Feasant Pluckers with 94 points, who found one extra correct prediction than Dolbyfc in second place. Our two wildcard winners this week are MBA & Deli Alli-Shaan.

Ledley King's Talking Points

Spurs delivered Jose Mourinho’s worst ever home defeat, and Man United’s worst league start since 1992 with a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Lucas Moura was brilliant again, and looks like he will be a key cog in Pochettino’s set up this season. The 100% record is still intact, with a trip to Vicarage Road up next.

Bournemouth came from two goals behind to take a point from Everton on Saturday. The Cherries have now earned 20 points from losing positions in 2018 and are making a name for themselves as escape artists. “I would like us to be a little bit more ruthless when it’s 0-0,” admitted Eddie Howe.

Cardiff’s defensive stubbornness has seen them suffer just the single defeat from their opening three PL games, but Neil Warnock’s side need some shooting practice if they are to survive the drop this season. The Bluebirds are still seeking their first goal of the season and have a daunting fixture list that includes Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Liverpool before the end of October.

Watford have won their opening three games of a top-flight season for the first time in their history. The early pace-setters struck two past Palace to go second in the PL table, following Liverpool only on goal difference. The Hornets are yet to face a title contender but have made easy work of sides whose primary goal is to avoid relegation.

Leeds are proving to be the Championship’s team to beat as they walked through Norwich at Carrow Road to take their tally for the season to 13. Boro have matched Bielsa’s side and trail only on goal difference, but Leeds’s performances have been that of a Championship winning side so far, while Pablo Hernandez' contract extension is looking like some of the best business in the league.

Peterborough are now the Football League's only remaining side with a 100% record after dismantling Plymouth at Home Park. With braces from Mark Godden and Jason Cumming, plus a goal from Siriki Dembélé, Posh’s 5-1 victory sees them surge to the top of League One.

Kevin Nolan has been sacked by Notts County after his side’s 3-1 defeat to Lincoln City. County are winless after five games and sit at the foot of League Two. The Magpies have only recorded two victories on the road since the turn of the year.
