Matchweek 12 Roundup: Rotherham deny 7OTB player the chance to go for £1,000,000!
The two players who had correctly predicted all seven selections two weeks in a row both fell at the third hurdle, but one was very unlucky with only Rotherham letting them down. Had Rotherham won, they would have been one week away from a £1,000,000 Christmas surprise.
18 players did get all 7 selections correct, with one of those achieving a full house for the second week in a row. The top player in the country was Luke Smith with 29 points, so £100 is on its way to him!
The top team this week was the Richmond Arms with 114 points. That wasn't enough to take top spot in the battle for the third £700 team prize of the season, with the cash instead going to The Croydon Renegades who earned 127 points in Matchweek 10. That means the next £700 prize is up for grabs over the next four weeks, giving one team a nice New Year's present.
Ledley King grabbed his first full house of the season with 27 points.
Ledley King's Talking Points
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial delivered a punishing blow to Man City’s title hopes, leading Man United to a 2-1 win in the derby. It leaves City 14 points behind Liverpool, and while there’s a long way to go it’s hard to see any other scenario than a Liverpool title this season.
Leicester kept up the title chase with a convincing 4-1 win over Aston Villa, their eighth straight win in the Premier League, which is their longest ever streak in the top flight. Jamie Vardy scored his 16th goal of the season, and is two games away from equalling his record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches.
Federico Fernández helped complete Newcastle’s comeback against Southampton at St James’ Park to keep the Mags just two points outside the European spots. Steve Bruce’s side have dropped just four points in five games.
Son scored a goal of the season contender as Spurs brushed aside Burnley with a 5-0 win in London. The goal made it three goals and five assists and in his last six games for Son. "I think it is the best goal in my life," he admitted.
Leeds returned to the Championship summit after goals from Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez gave them a 2—0 victory in the West Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield. The result leaves the Terriers winless in five.
Bristol City went level on points with third-placed Fulham after a 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage. The visitors went two goals up but an 86th-minute goal for Fulham set up a dramatic finale, with the Lillywhites hitting the crossbar and having a strong penalty shout in the final minutes.
Swindon went three points clear at the top of League Two after their 3-0 win over managerless Grimsby. The game saw Eóin Doyle grab his 12th goal in eight games for the Robins.
