Weekly Draw Predictions: Matchweek 17
There were goals galore at the weekend as The Premier League returned to our lives after a rather lifeless international break. 28 goals flew in in total, with Manchester United, Bournemouth and Chelsea all hitting four past their opponents. There was just one top flight draw which came in the Crystal Palace v Everton game.
In The Championship, Sunderland and Fulham have each drawn eight times this season now. They shared the points with Millwall and Derby respectively last Saturday. Only Ebbsfleet in the Vanarama National League have drawn more – they’ve got 10 draws to their name this term.
After match week 16 League One side Bristol Rovers are one of only three sides in England’s top five leagues who are yet to draw this year. The other two play in The Championship – high flyers Sheffield United and mid-table Nottingham Forest.
This Week’s Draw Predictions
Burnley v Arsenal
Not many would have banked on Burnley taking points off the so-called big teams this season, but the home side have won three consecutive top flight games for the first time since 1975 following their victory against Swansea last weekend, and they’re looking like this season’s surprise package. The Clarets have lost just twice in The Premier League – that’s less than both Chelsea and Spurs – and they find themselves level on points with Arsenal going into Sunday’s match. We think the table will read similar by Sunday evening when these two in-form teams meet.
Scunthorpe v Charlton
There isn’t much separating Scunthorpe and Charlton in the League One table and it’s likely to be the same story on the pitch at Glanford Park on Saturday. Four of the last six league games between these two have ended in a draw.
QPR v Brentford
Sunday’s Championship match sees two mid-table sides struggling for consistency going head to head. Rangers’ home form has been impressive this term – they beat Wolves and Sheff United in straight games – but Bentford have had something of a hoodoo against them in recent times, winning four of the last five meetings in all competitions. Both lost last weekend and it will be a close game at Loftus Road as they look to return to form.
Sure Draw Prediction This Week
Ebbsfleet v Hartlepool
Ebbsfleet and Hartlepool are level on points in the National League with each side having earned 28 points before the mid-week fixtures. The home team are certified draw specialists and have drawn 10 times in the league. That’s more than any other team in the top divisions in England and Scotland, whilst Hartlepool have taken a point from three of their last five games too.
Wildcard Draw Prediction
Hamilton v Hibernian
Hamilton are ten points behind Hibs, who sit third in the SPL going into the weekend. They’re unbeaten in their last four though – winning two and drawing two. Hibs had won four in a row but suffered a shock defeat at home to St. Johnstone last time out and whilst their record on the road is up there with the SPL’s best, Hamilton will fancy their chances of springing another shock on Neil Lennon’s side.
