Weekly Winning Predictions: Matchweek 17

Draw Predictions 5

Jose Mourinho said Paul Pogba is a “different class” after the midfielder made his comeback from injury in Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Newcastle, playing an instrumental role in the win and getting on the scoresheet in the process. Elsewhere in the Premier League there were wins for Chelsea and the formidable Manchester City. New West Ham manager David Moyes had no luck in his first game though: The Hammers lost 2-0 at Watford.

This weekend sees Liverpool play Chelsea in the Premier League’s stand-out game. Liverpool have been impressive since their defeat to Tottenham at the end of October and they’ve scored ten goals in the three games since – all of which they’ve won. Chelsea are also enjoying rich goalscoring form and they smashed four past West Brom last time out. It should be an explosive game at Anfield in Saturday’s late kickoff.

In League Two free-scoring Luton netted seven goals in a game for the third time this season as they took Cambridge apart last weekend winning 7-0. They’re in second place going into their tricky mid-week game at home to Carlisle and trip to struggling Crewe on Saturday.

Gary Monk’s return to Leeds as Middlesborough manager was a trip to forget. ‘Boro had won three in a row going into the games but Leeds took control of the match from the outset, winning 2-1 to send Monk back to the North East empty-handed. This weekend’s Championship fixtures include home games for the top two teams Wolves and Sheffield United. Both are playing sides near the foot of the table in Bolton and Birmingham.

This Week’s Win Predictions

Tottenham v West Brom

Tony Pulis is the latest Premier League manager to get the sack after winning just two games out of 23. The Baggies have lost four straight Premier League games and were demolished by Chelsea last week. Spurs will be riling from their derby defeat to Arsenal and Mauricio Pochettino will look at this game as the perfect opportunity to get his team back on track. If Kane et al are firing on all cylinders again it will be another miserable afternoon for Pulis.

Huddersfield v Manchester City

Newly promoted Huddersfield have been punching above their weight this season but Bournemouth beat them convincingly at the weekend and it’s the first indication that they might yet be pulled into a relegation fight. Goals have been hard to come by for The Terriers – they’ve scored just eight in The Prem all season – whereas the unbeaten Man City are scoring for fun. They have notched 40 league goals already and based on current form they won’t struggle to add to that tally in Sunday evening’s game.

Sheffield United v Birmingham City

Birmingham have only taken one point from their eight away games in The Championship this year, scoring a meagre three goals. And no one has conceded fewer at home then their opponents on Saturday, Sheffield United. Despite their victory at the weekend, which will have given them a much-needed confidence boost, it looks like an impossible task for Steve Cotterill’s Birmingham.

Sure Winner Prediction This Week

Dundee United v Brechin

In the banker of all bankers this weekend, Scottish Championship top boys Dundee United face rock bottom Brechin City. Brechin haven’t won a league match or taken a point away from their home ground, and they’re already seven points from safety in the second tier’s relegation zone.

Wildcard Win Prediction

Burton v Sunderland

Chris Coleman has been around the block and his appointment as Sunderland manager should finally provide a glimmer of hope to Sunderland fans who have seen their team win just once in The Championship this term. That victory came on the road and they could grab another three points away at Burton who sit 22nd after last weekend’s games and have lost four of their last five.
