Weekly Winning Predictions: Matchweek 18

Draw Predictions 6

Manchester City showed that they’ve got fighting spirit to match their on-field quality as they came from behind to beat Huddersfield on a cold Sunday evening in Yorkshire, and if anyone didn’t already think the title is theirs this year they probably do now.

Elsewhere in The Premier League, Crystal Palace finally won for the second time this season. They beat Stoke who are now winless in their last three thanks to a last-gasp winner from Mamadou Sakho. And Mo Salah gave Chelsea a reminder of what they let go, scoring for Liverpool in their draw against his former employers at Anfield. It wasn’t enough to win the game though as Willian levelled for the Blues late on.

In The Championship, Chris Coleman guided Sunderland to their first victory in 16 games as they ran out 0-2 winners at Burton. They remain in the drop zone but closed the gap on 21st-placed Birmingham to just two points.

Birmingham were the latest victims of Leon Clarke’s fine run of goalscoring. His strike for Sheffield United to stole a point for The Blades and means that Clarke alone has scored more goals in November than most other teams in the league.

Rangers suffered a shock defeat at the hands of SPL bottom feeders Dundee FC, who dragged themselves off the foot of the table with their third win of the season. In our sure win prediction from the weekend, their city rivals Dundee United slipped up away to rock bottom Brechin, giving the hosts just their third point of the season.

This Week’s Win Predictions

Chelsea v Newcastle

Rafa Benitez returns to one of his former clubs after a miserable November and will be hoping Newcastle can cause a shock by beating The Champions in Saturday’s early kick off. It doesn’t look likely though. Whilst Chelsea were far from their best as they took on Liverpool last time out, they would have to be a good deal worse to slip up at home to Newcastle. The Magpies’ away record is among the worst in The Premier League with just four points taken from six games.

Sutton v Eastleigh

Sutton are top of the Vanarama National League again after they bounced back from their surprise loss to Torquay with a convincing win at Guiseley. Their opponents Eastleigh have one of the leakiest defences in the league and they’re on a streak of five matches without a win. It’s very tight at the top of the league – don’t bank on Sutton taking their foot off the gas this weekend.

Manchester City v West Ham

It’s impossible to ignore the almost frightening form of Manchester City and after they dug deep to win at Huddersfield it’s likely they’ll be even more confident heading into their match against West Ham. Pep Guardiola’s men have more points from their opening 13 games than any other team has ever managed and our money says they’ll be adding to that at the weekend. David Moyes may have to wait to add to the first point he took as Hammers manager on Friday night.

Sure Winner Prediction This Week

Derby v Burton

Matej Vydra whacked three past Middlesbrough for Derby last weekend. His second career hat trick meant The Rams chalked up back-to-back wins and Gary Rowett’s side look like they could be pushing for promotion come the end of the season. Burton are 23rd in the Championship following their defeat against Sunderland and they’ve conceded more than any other side in the league. That will make nice reading for Vydra, who with 11 goals so far this term is averaging a goal every 79 minutes.

Wildcard Win Prediction

Sunderland v Reading

A Sunderland win is proving something of a collector’s item these days but perhaps new gaffer Chris Coleman can turn things around at the Stadium of Light. They kept their first clean sheet for 22 games as they won his second game in charge on Saturday. Coleman’s unenviable task of guiding the Mackems out of the relegation zone and up the Championship table continues as they host Reading, who are six points ahead of Sunderland but without a win in three.
