Weekly Winning Predictions: Matchweek 20

Draw Predictions 8

The Premier League brought us some huge games in matchweek 19. Tottenham got back to winning ways in style with a 5-1 demolition of Stoke. It’s the fourth time in a row Spurs have beaten Stoke by a four goal margin. Harry Kane was back to his best, netting twice to take his 2017 goal tally to an impressive 50. And there was a banker-busting result at The London Stadium, where David Moyes got his first win as West Ham boss by beating Chelsea 1-0.

On Sunday there were the Merseyside and Manchester derbies in what was a huge afternoon of football. Neither game was as much of a spectacle as promised on paper, but Everton’s late equaliser at Anfield provided some much needed drama as Wayne Rooney salvaged a point for his boyhood club. Man City’s victory at Old Trafford was United’s first dropped points at home this season and City’s third successive 2-1 win as they again showed that they can grind out three points when the pressure’s on.

In the Championship Nigel Adkins got off to a winning start as Hull City manager after replacing Leonid Slutsky last week. The Tigers climbed to 18th with a win at the KCOM stadium against Brentford thanks to Jackson Irvine’s first goal for the club. Their next game is a trip to second-placed Cardiff on Sunday. The shock result of the weekend in The Championship was Wolves’ draw with Sunderland, who had Lee Cattermole sent off with half an hour to play. Table toppers Wolves couldn’t find a goal but they’re still five points clear at the top.

Notts County held free-scoring Luton Town to a 1-1 draw in the pick of the League Two games. Shola Ameobi’s equaliser for County means Luton are still top and County stay level on points in second. And at the bottom of League Two, our wildcard win prediction came good as bottom club Chesterfield beat Barnet 2-1, stretching their unbeaten run to six matches.

It was goals galore in the National League as six teams managed to put four goals past their opponents. Eastleigh and Bromley was the pick of the lot: it finished 4-4 with two goals in the final three minutes. Incredibly, it’s the 11th time Eastleigh have drawn already this season.

This Week’s Win Predictions

Chelsea v Southampton

The Blues slipped up away to West Ham last weekend which ended their recent run of good results and prompted Antonio Conte to concede the Premier League title to Manchester City. If The Saints are to get anything from the game, the key is keeping Eden Hazard at bay, but many have tried and failed to do that in The Premier League this season. Chelsea should have enough to overpower an inconsistent Southampton side who have won just four PL games this term and just once on the road.

Brentford v Barnsley

Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has admitted their current run of form is his worst as a manager and it’s not really much of a surprise. The Yorkshire club have slipped to 20th in The Championship in a spell of six league games without a win. They were easily dispatched by Derby last weekend and Brentford – one of the league’s highest scorers – could do the same.

Blackburn Rovers v Charlton Athletic

Blackburn are hitting peak form going into this game – five consecutive League One wins sees them mounting a serious challenge for the automatic play-off places. Charlton fans may have been thinking it was their season to do the same, but they’ve fallen off the boil in recent matches winning just one of their last five matches. The impressive Bradley Dack hit a brace in ten minutes during Rovers’ 3-2 win at Peterborough last weekend and his form could be the catalyst for them to continue their winning run.

Sure Winner Prediction This Week

Cardiff v Hull City

Hull City got off to a good start to life under Nigel Adkins with a win over Brentford last weekend. However, their defensive frailties were clear to see again and second-placed Cardiff will be confident they can capitalise on them. The Welsh side are the only team still unbeaten at home in The Championship this term and it’ll be a big shock if that has changed after these two go head-to-head on Sunday evening.

Wildcard Win Prediction

Stoke v West Ham

West Ham’s win over Chelsea caught most of us by surprise last weekend. Perhaps David Moyes has the magic formula to save The Hammers’ season. If he does, he needs to use it week-in, week-out, which means beating the likes of Stoke City. They’re usually resolute at home but Stoke are stuck in a rut at the moment and might as well have stayed at home last weekend as they were taken apart by Spurs. A wildcard win for West Ham could see them climb out of the relegation zone and continue the Moyes revolution.
